This course will address complex legal and practical issues arising in the context of retained EU law and the EU Settlement Scheme. The course aims to equip practitioners with an understanding of how to deal with these issues in their cases. 

Topics will include:

•    Zambrano carers (latest caselaw) 
•    Other derivative rights
•    Surinder Singh
•    Durable partners
•    Extended family members with outstanding appeals/ applications
•    Suitability and deportation

This course will not cover content covered in WEB 1137 EUSS Update course run in December 2021.

Tutor biographies:
Mala is a Solicitor for Here for Good based at Wilson Solicitors LLP. Her practice covers a wide range of immigration, asylum and nationality law, with particular emphasis on applications based on partnership, family and private life; asylum on the basis of sexual identity; and the rights of Europeans and their family members. 
For the last 12 months she been working on a project for Here for Good assisting vulnerable EEA nationals and their family members, as well as challenging EUSS policy through potential strategic litigation. 

Eva is a barrister at Garden Court Chambers. Eva has extensive experience in immigration, asylum and public law, having worked in this field since 2015. Prior to pupillage, Eva worked as a paralegal at Laura Devine Immigration where she developed a particular interest and experience in EU free movement law and the impact of Brexit on EEA nationals and their family members. Eva mainly delivers training on EU free movement law and the EU Settlement Scheme (beginner and advanced). She has spoken at the Annual Free Movement Conference and the ILPA AGM.
