This introductory course is ideal for all practitioners new to the field of immigration law or those in need of a refresher. This course will provide you with a broad overview and take you on a whistle stop tour of the different areas of immigration, asylum and nationality law. This course aims to provide you with the core foundations of immigration law and help to develop your skills and confidence in this complex and ever-changing area of law. 

This course is designed to be interactive and provide you with practical guidance through the use of case studies, pop quizzes and group discussions. You will discuss realistic scenarios to help you to understand how to apply your knowledge of the rules and policies when advising clients.

Glyn Lloyd, Newfields Law and Siân Pearce, Asylum Justice
Tutor biographies:
Siân is an immigration solicitor based in South Wales. She splits her time between Asylum Justice and Newfields Law. She has a particular interest in issues affecting Children and Young People as well as Welsh law and is currently undertaking an MSc in Youth and Childhood Studies at Cardiff University. She has also previously delivered lectures for the University of Bristol to Social Work Students on working with separated children. Before returning to practice in Wales she was the specialist Children’s Immigration Solicitor at Bristol Law Centre. 

As well as immigration and asylum cases Siân also has experience of Age Assessment challenges and was invited to review the most recent Age Assessment guidance for Wales. 

Glyn Lloyd is partner and founder of Newfields, a firm which acts largely for sports organisations on UK immigration matters. Having established immigration offerings at his previous firms VWV and Blake Morgan, Glyn has accumulated over 10 years’ experience in assisting clubs, governing bodies, athletes and their representatives on all immigration routes. Prior to Newfields, Glyn was Head of Advice at a Russell Group university to oversee the delivery of its immigration advisory services to both students and academic staff whilst also coordinating a broader and more strategic overview to ensure institution-wide compliance that was ratified in a UKVI HEI audit.
