DESCRIPTION:We invite you to attend ILPA’s first Student Sponsors Conference\, hosted as a hybrid event. This all day conference will take place in person at Friends House in London and online via Zoom. The conference\, created by education immigration law experts Tom Brett Young\, Anna Blackden and Nichola Carter\, will examine the Immigration Rules and Home Office Policy Guidance relating to the sponsorship of international students in the UK. The conference will be aimed principally at student sponsorship in independent schools\, colleges and pathway providers. DESCRIPTION:Practitioners and HR specialists will receive an in-depth look at sponsor licences.\n\n\nLevel: Intermediate \nDescription: \nPractitioners and HR specialists will receive an in-depth look at sponsor licences. This will not only include practical advice on how to obtain a sponsor licence but also how to ensure effective compliance and retain the licence. We will discuss the submission process and compliance requirements\, highlighting pitfalls and providing tips. We will advise upon the HR practices necessary to ensure sponsor duties are met and other factors that the Home Office would be looking for at a compliance visit. We will also discuss our experience with sponsor license refusals\, downgrading and revocations – providing tips for avoiding these and challenging them where necessary. \nAudience: \nThis course is designed for business immigration practitioners and HR specialists who advise on sponsor licences. \n\n\nTutors: Smruti Jeyanandhan\, Bates Wells and Sam Ingham\, Laura Devine Immigration \nSmruti Jeyanandhan is a UK immigration and nationality law specialist with over 18 years’ experience advising corporate and private clients on complex business and personal immigration matters. \nSmruti has significant experience in delivering strategic solutions-focused advice to employers on sponsor licence applications and employer compliance support. Smruti regularly advises on sponsored as well as self-sponsored routes and provides an end-to-end service to ensure each individual feels supported throughout the process. As the immigration landscape is ever-changing\, having an in-depth understanding of the multitude of immigration routes and how they interplay\, allows Smruti to provide strategic advice that takes into account business drivers as well as personal needs of the individual. \nSmruti is a seasoned presenter\, delivering training to corporate clients on sponsorship and compliance. She previously held the role of co-convenor for ILPA’s economic migration working group and regularly provides training for ILPA on Innovators and on Sponsor Licences and Compliance . Smruti is recognised in a number of legal directories\, including Chambers and Partners\, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal. \nSam Ingham is a Solicitor at Laura Devine Immigration and has focused exclusively on UK immigration and nationality law since 2012. His extensive experience includes facilitating immigration solutions for multinational companies including tech start-ups and companies in the insurance\, banking\, and life sciences sector. He has developed particular expertise with sponsor licence applications\, compliance and sponsored worker applications. \nSam is an experienced trainer and public speaker having delivered ILPA training on sponsorship and compliance for over seven years and presented at the ILPA sponsor licence conference for the last two years. DESCRIPTION:We will explore issues that arise when companies with complex structures apply for Skilled Worker and Intra-Company routes sponsor licences.\n\n\nLevel: Intermediate – Advanced \nCourse Type: Overview \nDescription: \nWe will explore issues that arise when companies with complex structures apply for Skilled Worker and Intra-Company routes sponsor licences. \nThe high level of recent merger\, acquisition and restructuring activity in the UK means practitioners are frequently being asked to advise on the immigration and right to work aspects of corporate transactions. Where one or more of the entities involved has a sponsor licence\, this will often consist of reviewing the current sponsor licence arrangements\, advising on the appropriate arrangement post-transaction and then taking the necessary steps to ensure that the appropriate entity is able to continue to employ its sponsored workers. This may involve either making a notification to the Home Office or submitting an application for a new licence. If the transaction involves staff transferring between entities\, this can also involve right to work issues. \nPractitioners are also frequently required to understand the types of structures that international companies employ and advise on whether these structures mean that these businesses can transfer their overseas employees to the UK under the Global Business Mobility routes. \nThe course will explore issues that arise when companies with complex structures apply for Skilled Worker and Intra-Company routes sponsor licences. It will consider the steps that need to be taken when a company that holds a Skilled Worker sponsor licence is involved in a corporate transaction. She has an MSc in Psychology with research on secondary traumatic stress in the legal profession. This research and ongoing study informs the work of Claiming Space. She is an experienced freelance trainer and group facilitator as well as a meditation and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy teacher. \nRachel Francis is a barrister practising in immigration and family law with particular expertise in working with vulnerable clients. She is the former co-chair of Young Legal Aid Lawyers. During her time as co-chair\, Rachel saw first-hand the effects of working with trauma in the legal profession. She was jointly responsible for the strategic direction of the group and for co-ordinating its campaigning\, promoting social mobility and protecting the interests of junior lawyers who believe in the importance of legal-aided work as a means of achieving social justice. In July 2019 Rachel was awarded the LAPG Special Award for outstanding commitment to access to justice.

It has also served as the basis for new regional and national legal and policy frameworks. \nHe has practical experience of asylum litigation in the UK\, as a Legal Officer for the Refugee Legal Centre; and established the Refugee Law Clinic at the University of London.
