SUMMARY:WEB 2113 Expansion Worker: an overview
DESCRIPTION:Aim of the course: to consolidate knowledge of the UK Expansion Worker category\, share practical tips and analyse the route strategically.\n\n\nLevel: Beginner – Intermediate  \nDescription: \nThe UK Expansion category\, targeted at businesses outside the UK which are seeking to expand their presence within the UK\, was introduced on 11 April 2022 (as one of the five new Global Mobility routes) and has replaced the Sole Representative of an Overseas Business category. This session will summarise areas of similarity between the new route and the one it replaces\, key changes and how practitioners can best support their clients in navigating the new category.  \nTopics will include: \n\nStrategic assessment – when to use the Expansion Worker route \nRequirements for businesses seeking to obtain a licence to sponsor on this route\nEligibility criteria for migrant worker\nDocuments required in support of the application \nPractical considerations\nTips on making a successful application \nCase studies \nPeriods of grant and long term planning to remain in the UK\n\nAudience: \nThe session is aimed at practitioners who have a basic knowledge of the category.  \n\n\nT utors: Aisha Choudhry\, Bates Wells and Sacha Wooldridge\, Birketts LLP \nAisha is Senior Associate in the Immigration Department at Bates Wells and specialise in corporate immigration. She primarily deals with skilled worker visas involving sponsor licences\, mergers and acquisitions\, strategy and compliance. Sacha has a wealth of experience supporting businesses from start-ups to FTSE 100s across all sectors including financial and professional services\, engineering\, FMCG\, energy and technology. Sacha provides end-to-end immigration support for business with a deep personal commitment to providing a friendly and personable point of contact with the highest quality service and technical advice – recognising that moving people internationally is both critical for business and can be a challenging time for individuals and their families. SUMMARY:WEB 3008 Nationality Applications for Children (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Practitioners working with children will receive an in-depth look at the ways in which migrant children can register as British citizens.\n\n\nL evel: Beginner- Intermediate \nDescription: \nPractitioners and those working with children will receive an in-depth look at the various ways in which migrant children can register as British citizens. The seminar will look at the statutory requirements under the British National Act 1981\, the Home Office guidance on registration\, including the recent amendments to the guidance for discretionary applications under section 3(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981\, as well as practical considerations for making applications. It will include an opportunity to participate in case studies of applications under the different routes to registration\, either in groups or led by the tutors. \nThe topics covered will include: \n– Registration applications under sections 1(3)\, 1(4)\, 3(2)\, 3(5)\, 4F and 4G \n– Discretionary applications under section 3(1) \n– Parental consent and proof of paternity \n– Application process and supporting evidence \n*We will not be covering naturalisation or registration applications for adults \nAudience: Practitioners advising families about British nationality options for children or wanting to learn more about this area of law. \n\n\nTutors: Emma Cohen\, OTB Legal and Ashley Fleming\, Harper Macleod \nEmma is an associate solicitor at OTB Legal. Prior to joining OTB Legal she was an associate solicitor in the immigration department at Bindmans LLP where she had worked for over ten years. She covers all areas of immigration\, asylum and nationality law. She has particular interest and experience in complex immigration and nationality cases involving families and children including inter-country adoption and she regularly writes court reports on immigration issues in family cases. Emma qualified as a solicitor in 1995 at Bates\, Wells and Braithwaite. Although she has spent most of her 25 years post qualification experience working in immigration law in private practice Emma has also lectured at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. She is a volunteer adviser for Rainbow Migration. \nEmma is a regular trainer for ILPA and had delivered courses on Family Law for Immigration Practitioners\, Indefinite Leave to Remain: all you need to know\, Criminality in the Immigration Rules\, Professional conduct and ethics in immigration cases\, Home Office policy\, concessions & the exercise of discretion outside the rules\, and Discretion – What’s Left? Exploring the use of discretion in immigration and nationality law. \nAshley is a senior associate solicitor at Harper Macleod LLP and has over 15 years’ experience working in the field of immigration. Her caseload covers all aspects of immigration\, asylum and nationality law. \nAshley is a regular trainer for ILPA and has delivered courses on the EU Settlement Scheme\, introductory courses on both immigration and asylum law to MPs’ Caseworkers and Assistants and the Introduction to Immigration Law course for practitioners.
