The group aims to improve access to the sector to counter the limited diversity among immigration practitioners particularly in senior roles\, to address the systemic racism prevalent in the sector within immigration systems and workplaces\, and to help foster a more welcoming environment for racialised practitioners. \nThe Working Group intends to work on fostering an inclusive culture where discussions on racism can take place and how these could be embedded within the workplace so that issues can be made explicit then addressed rather than remaining unacknowledged. \nThe ILPA Racial Justice and Equality working group is first and foremost a space for our Black and Ethnic Minority members\, as a collective space for thoughts\, frustrations and action. DESCRIPTION:Practitioners and HR specialists will receive an in-depth look at sponsor licences.\n\n\nLevel: Intermediate  \nDescription: \nPractitioners and HR specialists will receive an in-depth look at sponsor licences. This will not only include practical advice on how to obtain a sponsor licence but also how to ensure effective compliance and retain the licence. We will discuss the updated submission process and compliance requirements post the December 2020 changes\, highlighting pitfalls and providing tips. We will advise upon the HR practices necessary to ensure sponsor duties are met and other factors that the Home Office would be looking for at a compliance visit. DESCRIPTION:Practitioners will receive an in-depth look at how to approach applications for leave outside the immigration rules\n\n\nLevel: Basic – Intermediate \nDescription: \nPractitioners will receive an in-depth look at how to approach applications for leave outside the rules\, including how to assess the applicant’s circumstances and available evidence\, as well as practical considerations for making applications. It will include an opportunity to participate in case studies\, either in groups or led by the tutors. \nThe topics covered will include: \n\nPreparing applications for leave outside the rules;\nSupporting evidence\, including instructing experts;\nFee waivers and application process.\n\nThe aim of this course is to develop an understanding of a best practice approach to applications for leave outside the rules . \nThe course will not cover: asylum\, humanitarian protection\, discretionary leave\, post-asylum\, fresh claims or family reunion \nAudience: \nThis course will be of particular interest to immigration law practitioners acting in personal immigration matters. \n\n\nTutors: Ashley Fleming\, Harper Macleod and Janey Armstrong\, Drummond Miller \nJaney is a partner at Drummond Miller LLP and leads the firm’s immigration team in Glasgow. She advises on all aspects of immigration\, nationality and asylum law and has over a decade of experience in the field. \nJaney regularly provides external training on immigration law and has recently delivered seminars on the EU Settlement Scheme to immigration advisors\, local authorities and third sector organisations. Janey is recommended for Immigration by both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500. \nAshley a senior associate solicitor at Harper Macleod LLP and has over 15 years’ experience working in the field of immigration.
