After registering\, you will receive a separate email containing information about joining the meeting remotely on Zoom. \nWe look forward to seeing you there. \nAudience: \nILPA Members. \nBackground on the Wellbeing Working Group: \nThe ILPA Well-being working group was established in 2018 to raise awareness about mental health and well-being in the immigration sector. It aims to cultivate a culture amongst immigration practitioners where well-being is discussed openly and not stigmatized and ensure that all immigration practitioners know where to access help if needed. The group meets every 6 weeks and works collectively to create cultural and systemic change within the sector by facilitating workshops\, training and conferences on the topics of mental health\, well-being and vicarious trauma. If you are not already an ILPA member\, but would like to attend this training\, please contact the ILPA Secretariat about membership (info@ilpa.org.uk). \nLevel: All Levels \nDescription: \nIn this webinar ‘Vicarious Trauma in the Legal Profession’\, Claiming Space co-directors\, Joanna Fleck and Rachel Francis\, will cover the following topics: \n• Vicarious Trauma; \n• Reflective practice; and\, \n• Boundaries and burnout. \nThe training will include both theory and practice\, providing attendees with the language to discuss the impact of working with trauma and practical tools to reflect upon and manage that impact. \nAudience: \nThis training is for ILPA Members only. This webinar is limited to a capacity of 25 people and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. No more than 5 people from the same organisation can attend the event. \n\n\nTutors: Joanna Fleck and Rachel Francis\, Claiming Space \nJoanna Fleck is a BACP-registered psychotherapist\, reflective practice facilitator\, and writer. A former solicitor\, she spent over 10 years working in legal aid\, specialising in actions against the state\, inquests and public inquiries. She has an MSc in Psychology with research on secondary traumatic stress in the legal profession. This research and ongoing study informs the work of Claiming Space. She is an experienced freelance trainer and group facilitator as well as a meditation and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy teacher. \nRachel Francis is a barrister practising in immigration and family law with particular expertise in working with vulnerable clients. She is the former co-chair of Young Legal Aid Lawyers. During her time as co-chair\, Rachel saw first-hand the effects of working with trauma in the legal profession. She was jointly responsible for the strategic direction of the group and for co-ordinating its campaigning\, promoting social mobility and protecting the interests of junior lawyers who believe in the importance of legal-aided work as a means of achieving social justice. In July 2019 Rachel was awarded the LAPG Special Award for outstanding commitment to access to justice.
