 Refugee Legal Support (RLS) is looking for a UK-based freelance/consultant project manager who will work collaboratively with the Executive Committee/Board of Trustees (the Exec) to deliver the charity’s short- and longer-term aims. This will include responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the project, fundraising, budgeting and forward planning.

The position will be for three days per week and is ideal for applicants with a range of experience in qualifications. The determining factor in recruitment is likely to be commitment and enthusiasm to contribute to the next phase of RLS’ development as we progress towards securing longer term sustainable service provision to refugees in Greece.

RLS

RLS exists since April 2017 to promote access to justice and safe legal routes to asylum and family reunification for refugees in Greece. We:-

  • Provide free asylum and EU family reunification assistance (particularly to those seeking reunification with family members in the UK) using volunteer UK refugee lawyers.
  • Share UK expertise in asylum law with our network of legal and grassroots volunteer organisations in Greece and Europe.
  • Challenge hostile policy through strategic litigation and promote social justice.
  • Advocate for legal routes to family reunification and develops inclusive, sustainable and regenerative ways of working with refugee communities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Formalise strategic plans, fundraising strategy and budgets implementing Exec decision making. Contribute to overall strategy for the organisation. Support the Exec and attend monthly Exec meetings to provide reports on progress towards targets.
  1. It is envisaged that 35-40% of the role will be fundraising-related aimed at securing sustainable income streams to the organisation from individual, corporate, legacy and trust donations, including working closely with an external fundraiser and supported by responsible Exec members.
  1. Governance, including being the point of contact for the RLS Prism account manager and contributing to the RLS transition to registered charity status in the UK and registration in Greece, working together with responsible Exec members, including establishing an initial board of trustees (including current Exec members) and recruitment of skills needed.
  1. Oversight, development and maintenance of RLS databases including, funders / supporters / sector networks and contacts.
  1. Outward facing responsibilities include: representing RLS together with Exec members at external sector events, media contact and coordination, preparation of press releases and media content with Exec support in addition to oversight of RLS communications and online profiles, including website content and maintenance of social media accounts.
  1. Liaison with the RLS Athens Staff (currently Project Coordinator & Communications / Researcher) and support to the Athens team, including in respect of governance, finance and budgetary matters.
  1. Other tasks as agreed.

NECESSARY QUALITIES

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate leadership, advocacy and excellent interpersonal skills. They will have acute financial acumen and experience managing budgets within small organisations. They should have excellent spoken and written English language skills, and demonstrate a keen interest in migration, refugees and human rights. Commitment and enthusiasm to RLS’ aims and development will be a determinative factor.

DESIRABLE QUALITIES

 

  • Greek and other relevant language skills.
  • Experience working in NGO/fundraising sector.
