Nationality and Borders Bill: ILPA Committee Stage Briefings

ILPA documents | Key Documents

The Public Bill Committee met to consider the Nationality and Borders Bill between 21 September 2021 and 4 November 2021. ILPA’s Patron, Adrian Berry, gave oral evidence to the Public Bill Committee on 23 September 2021: the session can be viewed here and is recorded in Hansard here. The Report Stage in the House of Commons will take place on 7 and 8 December 2021.

We have engaged with other organisations across the sector to coordinate work and strategy on the Bill, including through the Asylum Reform Initiative. ILPA has sought to brief on parts of the Bill in such a way as to complement the work of others.

We are pleased that ILPA-led amendments were tabled at Committee stage. However, none of the amendments tabled by opposition Members of the Public Bill Committee was successful at Committee Stage. The Government introduced various amendments and new clauses at Committee stage.

Please note that the clause numbers below refer to the Bill as introduced. Our Report Stage briefings refer to the clause numbers in the Bill as amended in the Public Bill Committee.
