Description:

For those new to business immigration or wanting to refresh their knowledge, this is a fun and informative session aimed at beginner to intermediate level and designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to:

  • Business visitors
  • Sponsorship and Skilled Workers
  • The Global Business Mobility routes
  • Alternatives to sponsorship for Students, Graduates, and young people
  • Entrepreneurs, innovators and exceptional talent under the rules
  • Right to Work checks

Audience:

The course is designed for immigration practitioners holding basic UK immigration law knowledge who wish to develop their practice in the area of business immigration.

Tutors: Shara Pledger, Senior Associate at Pinsent Masons and Gary McIndoe, Managing Partner at Latitude Law

Gary trained as a solicitor at David Gray and Company in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, then came back to Manchester to join Thornhill Ince, where he worked until 2002, following which he was appointed Director of the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, a not-for-profit legal advice agency.

In 2004, he left to become immigration supervisor at Robert Lizar Solicitor in Moss Side, where he worked until forming Latitude Law in December 2007.

Gary is a Trustee for RAPAR and Chair of the Electronic Immigration Network, a charity providing online information in the field of immigration and asylum.

He is Visiting Lecturer in Immigration and Human Rights at the University of Law, an AILA International Associate, and contributed the immigration chapter to ‘Doing Business After Brexit’ (Bloomsbury, Sept 2017). With Gemma Tracey he is the author of “Deportation: A Practical Guide” (Law Brief Publishing, 2021).

Shara has worked in the area of UK immigration with since 2010 and heads up the immigration team within Pinsent Masons UK. She handles sponsor licensing applications for employers as well as other complex Points Based System issues. Shara has comprehensive experience with applications for entrepreneurs/innovators and investors, and with assisting highly skilled migrants seeking endorsements as ‘Global Talent’.

Shara is a co-convener of the ILPA North West working group.

Shara delivers ILPA’s ‘Introduction to Business Immigration Law’ and ‘Employing Migrant Workers: Tier 2, sponsorship & alternatives’ training.
