Asylum outsourcing

ILPA’s Legal Director attended meetings with other NGOs and the Home Office on Decision Making and Equalities, where the Home Office explained the work they are doing around improving the quality of decision making. It remains unclear how that goal fits with the outsourcing of asylum interviews, and we with other NGOs are seeking a meeting with the Home Office to discuss this in more depth. Our Legal Director has received media coverage in relation to asylum outsourcing in the Independent, where she said:

“The Home Office has a very poor record when it comes to outsourcing immigration activities, from G4S and immigration removal centres to the ongoing problems experienced with UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services and the ability to access free appointments.”

A briefing has also been produced from Freedom from Torture, ILPA, ATLEU and the Helen Bamber Foundation which we will be using to inform our ongoing advocacy around this issue.
