We have a fantastic opportunity for an Immigration Casework Supervisor at IAS.

As a Casework Supervisor working for a reputable firm as IAS, you will work alongside a team of immigration specialists, handling different caseloads up to OISC competence. You will assist the Regional Manager in the management of the office(s) for which responsibility is given and the direction, supervision, appraisal, assessment and training of staff; outreach work and collation of statistics in order to ensure that IAS’s operational targets are achieved with maximum efficiency; OISC and Legal Quality Assurance standards are complied with. To act as deputy to, and where appropriate in substitution for the Regional Manager and to attend meetings as directed.

Main Tasks

Management
· Manage staff in the regional office(s) for which responsibility is given, including annual appraisals, casework and forensic advocacy supervision in accordance with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC), Legal Aid Agency, Legal Policy Guidelines IAS Office Manual, IAS Employment Handbook, ongoing assessment, training, disciplinary and grievance procedures and all other line-management functions.
· Ensure that the employer’s obligations under health and safety, employment law and other regulations are observed in liaison with the HR Manager.
· Collect and collate statistics for the offices on a monthly basis or as required by the Casework, Quality and Performance Manager. Ensure that such statistics are accurate and meet deadlines for submission.
· Review decisions taken by caseworkers and paralegals in relation to their legal performance.
· Refer any complaints written or oral to the Casework, Quality and Performance Manager in accordance with the IAS Complaints Procedure and ensure requests for information by the CQPM in investigation of complaints are dealt with speedily.

Operational
· To undertake casework and manage a caseload up to the necessary level of competence/registration/accreditation.
· Represent clients before Immigration Judges, in person, or in writing as required including preparation of cases.
· Provide advice and representation to clients held at any Immigration Detention Centres or Prisons.
· Interview and advise clients regarding immigration/asylum law, procedure and practice. Provide guidance to clients on completion of documents and documents required in support of applications and appeals.
· Draft witness statements, skeleton arguments, representations and other complex documents and letters using your IT skills. Ensure all contact with the client is recorded on the legal database.

Essential
· LLB or Law related degree/diploma/equivalent
· Registered at OISC Level 3

Experience
· Minimum of 1 year’s experience of managing and supervising staff in a legal environment
· Minimum of 2 years’ full time experience of immigration representation covering all heads of policy under the Immigration Rules.
· Experience of representing clients at immigration appeals
· Experience of representing clients at immigration tribunal
· Understanding of duty to the court and client
· Working knowledge of immigration/asylum law and practice

Skills
· Ability to manage and motivate team members
· Ability to coach and provide professional guidance to team members
· Professional communication skills both written and oral
· Proven interpersonal skills
· Sensitivity to other cultures and issues raised by immigration/ asylum matters
· Ability to self-service and IT skills – and use of database
