Further to our joint briefing with Reprieve, JUSTICE and Public Law Project on Clause 9(5)-(7) of the Nationality and Borders Bill for the House of Lords consideration of Commons amendments on 4 April 2022, our joint briefing for MPs ahead of the Bill’s return to the House of Commons on 20 April 2022 can be read below.

On 4 April 2022, Peers voted to leave out subsections (5)-(7) in Clause 9 of the Nationality and Borders Bill regarding the retrospective validation of prior invalid orders, unlawfully made by the Home Secretary, to deprive people of their citizenship without notice. On 20 April 2022, we respectfully ask MPs to protect the rule of law and agree to Baroness D’Souza’s motion to remove Clause 9(5)-(7) from the Bill.
